Headline: Local schoolteacher authors Southside history book

Longtime Douglas Anderson School of the Arts dance and history teacher Debra Webb Rogers is the author of a newly released book from Arcadia Publishing titled, Jacksonville’s Southside.

            The book includes more than 200 vintage images and memories including photos of the Southside before and after the construction of Interstate 95. The book also features many class photos and school pictures from Landon High School. Vintage photos also include images of vaudeville performers and lion tamers and immigrants and entrepreneurs that made the neighborhood a special place in the past and present.

The 128-page book is available at area bookstores and online for $21.99.

This is the second Arcadia Images of America book Rogers has written. Recently, she released a similar book titled, San Marco. Other works of nonfiction include, Choosing a Dance School: What Every Parent Should Consider; Dancing Between the Ears; and a genealogy book on the descendants of Israel Boone titled, “The Bonne Connection in the Lost Counties. Rogers has lived in San Marco since 1979.
