While earlier last month it appeared that progress on the San Marco Streetscape would be hampered by rainy weather, by the middle of the month San Marco Boulevard was finally opened at the Naldo Avenue roundabout. Although some clean-up work remains, traffic can finally flow southbound on San Marco Blvd. all the way to Hendricks Avenue and northbound on Atlantic Blvd. The Balis Park renovation is moving along as well, with expected
completion in early to mid-June. Some of the improvements sponsored by the San Marco Preservation Society, such as benches and bicycle racks, will be installed a bit later. Although a formal ribbon-cutting ceremony has not yet been scheduled, as of press time, George Foote, president of the San Marco Merchants Association, stated that merchants may hold a “soft” opening for customers, residents and visitors to the Square.
