Storm ‘Beryls’ down on the neighborhood

Tropical Storm Beryl caused minor flooding and took down some neighborhood trees, but did not bring widespread damage to the city’s historic neighborhoods during its late May visit. While power went out sporadically in some areas, electrical outages were not widespread — about 20,000 homes lost power across JEA’s service area. JEA dispatched 15 tree crews, 30 electrical crews and 20 water crews to address utilities issues citywide. As precautions, the Jacksonville Transportation Authority suspended bus service on Memorial Day and regularly scheduled waste disposal service was canceled. Garbage collection was rescheduled for Saturday, June 2. City and state leaders including Councilman Jim Love, Congressman Ander Crenshaw,  City Council President Stephen Joost, Sen. Bill Nelson, and Gov. Rick Scott  joined Mayor Alvin Brown in helping to keep the community informed of the damages and changes to schedules.  The Resident toured the neighborhoods in the aftermath of Beryl and discovered many down trees and branches — and some expected flooding — but, thankfully, there were no major catastrophes!
