Cultural council, Creative Capital Foundation offer artists workshops

The Cultural Council of Greater Jacksonville in partnership with the Creative Capital Foundation will present two professional development workshops for artists in late September.
Applications to attend, however, are due Sep. 4 — so the groups encourage would-be attendees to consider the free public educational opportunities now.
A workshop called “Real Community Engagement” will be held at the Florida Times-Union Conference Room, 1 Riverside Avenue, on Sep. 29 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This workshop is designed to help artists clarify their objectives and gain management skills needed to produce successful community engagement projects.  Case studies from a range of disciplines are used to discuss grassroots fundraising, budgeting, negotiation, contracts, communicating about work, working with non-arts partners, and more.
Organizers are planning a second workshop entitled “Funding Your Work,” from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sep. 30. The class combines nuts-and-bolts strategies with a broad-based approach towards how to integrate fundraising into creative practice. Topics include developing fundraising materials; working with venues, donors and funders; building an individual donor base; and real cost b
udgeting.
Interested artists should complete the application located on the Cultural Council website:www.culturalcouncil.org by Sep. 4.  Artists are eligible to apply for either one, or both. The Cultural Council is pleased to offer this workshop free of charge with support from the City of Jacksonville.
