Public Hearing for Main Street Bridge Closure

MainStreetBridge

1st Place Sports has alerted walkers and runners to a public hearing tomorrow afternoon. The City of Jacksonville is considering closing the ramp from Independent Drive to the Main Street Bridge. This will affect the Main Street and Acosta Bridge loop.

A public meeting has been scheduled for this Thursday, September 25th to consider a proposal by FDOT, at the request of the City of Jacksonville, to remove the on-ramp that connects Independent Drive to the Main Street Bridge, in the vicinity of The Jacksonville Landing. The meeting will be at the Hyatt Regency Hotel downtown, beginning at 4:30 p.m. with open discussion. A presentation will begin at 6:30 p.m. followed by public comments.

The ramp closure is being requested by the City of Jacksonville due to redevelopment of the area. Traffic along Independent Drive would be directed around the block parallel to Ocean Street to Bay Street and then to Main Street southbound. Pedestrians and bicyclists could use Laura Street, Bay Street and Main Street to cross the bridge.

Those attending the meeting can park in the hotel parking garage at no charge as long as they exchange their garage ticket for a voucher at the meeting.

Those who are unable to attend but wish to provide comments can write FDOT project manager Will Lyons at [email protected] or by calling 904-360-5574.
