BK Crusaders win volleyball championship

The state trophy was theirs for the taking. It was a sweet moment for Bishop Kenny Volleyball Head Coach Suzanne Winkler when the varsity team bested Merritt Island in the FHSAA Class 5A championship last month. The team included eight seniors, five juniors and one sophomore; team captain is Nadine Williams.

The Crusader’s 26-1 record (losing only to Oviedo High School) in regular season matches took them to the Florida High School Athletic Association district tournament, where they beat Paxon and Stanton, then on to the regional tournaments in late October/early November. The Crusaders last made it to State Finals in 2006.
