Murray Hill Branch Library Repair Update

The Jacksonville Public Library is making progress on the repairs at the Murray Hill Branch Library located at 918 Edgewood Ave. S., which sustained interior flooding and other damage due to a main water line break that leaked through the foundation into the building.

Immediate repairs to molding and drywall have been completed. The carpet has dried out and replacement was not deemed necessary at this time. The window that was broken  during cleanup is scheduled to be replaced shortly. Since some moisture is likely to have leeched into the space where data cables are run, Public Works and City IT are pulling out and replacing all data cable. Once those items are complete, Computers and monitors damaged by the water will be replaced, and high-powered dehumidifiers will be brought in to absorb any residual humidity.

To further ensure the safety of staff and customers, all vents will be cleaned and an air quality test will be conducted. Upon successful test results and completion of all required repairs and maintenance, the branch should be ready to re-open.

At this time, the plan is to re-open the branch in mid- to late-January.

Murray Hill Branch Library customers who have materials on hold may pick them up at the Willowbranch Branch Library. The book drop at the Murray Hill Branch Library will remain closed during this time; however, customers may return materials at any branch location.

If anyone has questions about the construction, they are asked to contact the Jacksonville Public Works department via 630-CITY. The library will post any updates at www.jaxpubliclibrary.org
