San Marco sisters to attend International Science Fair in California

San Marco’s Mary Alice Young and her sister Izabelle, both students at Bishop Kenny High School, will attend the International Science Fair in Anaheim, Calif, May 11-16, corona virus permitting.

The girls won the opportunity to compete in the prestigious science fair due to their performance during the Northeast Regional Science Fair Feb. 11. The sisters were scheduled to compete at the Florida State Science Fair March 24-26 in Lakeland, Florida, but unfortunately the fair was cancelled due to the corona virus pandemic. 

At the regional fair, the sisters received the NAVAIR FRCE/ISSC award, as well as the Mu Alpha Theta Award from the National High School and Two-Year College Mathematics Honor Society, the Johnson and Johnson cash prize, the IEEE award, an award from the Society of American Engineers and they were Regeneron finalists.  and first place in engineering at the regional science fair (NEFRSEF).

Mary Alice Young, a senior at Bishop Kenny, has been working on different elements of her project, Creating an Electromagnetic Suit to Simulate Gravity and Electromagnetism Effects on Dugesia Tigrina, for the past four years. This year, she invited her sister, Izabelle, to be part of the project by offering a biological component to her research. Attending the International fair is nothing new Mary Alice, who won a spot in 2018 and 2019.
