Celebrate All Things Local on 904 Day

Celebrate All Things Local on 904 Day

A grassroots campaign to celebrate all things Northeast Florida is encouraging residents to go local this Labor Day weekend.

Across the region, businesses and other organizations will offer a variety of “904” specials in honor of “904 Day,” officially celebrated on Sunday, September 4, 2022. Residents and visitors alike can join the 904 Day celebration by making a plan to support local businesses, organizations, destinations and causes on September 4, and throughout Labor Day weekend.

“904 Day is an opportunity for us all to celebrate everything that makes this part of Florida a wonderful place to call home,” said David Wingard, Avondale resident and founder of Wingard, a marketing and communications agency based in the Five Points neighborhood. “This campaign is a reminder that our local business and nonprofit communities combined with our region’s natural beauty are the heart and soul of Northeast Florida.”

904 Day has been celebrated as a grassroots movement for several years, with  residents, organizations and companies alike showing their support by tagging social media posts with #904Day.

The 904 area code covers nearly all of Northeast Florida, from the shores of Fernandina Beach to the historic squares of San Marco and St. Augustine and to the ever-growing counties surrounding the Bold City. As a grassroots campaign, no individual person, organization, or business claims its founding.

In 2021, after seeing the success of similar campaigns in Miami and Orlando, a group of civic and community organizations came together to amplify the “go local” message. A collective effort was launched by representatives from WJCT Public Media, Downtown Vision, Inc., the JAX Chamber, Visit Jacksonville, the First Coast Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and Wingard to raise awareness about the wonderful opportunities to enjoy all that Northeast Florida has to offer. In 2022, new partners joined the campaign including Build Up Downtown, the Downtown Investment Authority and the Jax Daily Record.

There isn’t one way to celebrate 904 Day, according to community collaborators. Whether you dedicate a day to shopping exclusively local this Labor Day weekend, or visit a park that you’ve never before explored, the key to being a part of this movement is to share your love for living here. Invite a friend to celebrate with you, or tag #904Day with a social media post about what you think makes this an exceptional place to live.
