Perfection may be difficult to obtain, but the Julia Landon College Preparatory and Leadership Development School girls volleyball team has done just that with a perfect season, clinched with its recent victory at the Duval County Middle School Volleyball Championship on Nov. 14.

This was the third consecutive year the Landon Lions made the City Championship. Julia Landon College Preparatory and Leadership Development School Athletic Director D. MiChelle Bourgholtzer said it is the fourth overall since the series began in 2013, adding that the Lions were the only team out of 25 Duval County Public School Middle School teams to finish the season undefeated.

“The Landon Lions volleyball team and its undefeated championship season has been an exciting team to watch for spectators and an amazing example for our community,” wrote Principal Ryan Casey in an e-mail. “I am proud of the tremendous leadership that they show on and off the floor, they are incredibly well coached and they enjoy themselves and they win with dignity and grace. This team is a true example of the student athlete at Julia Landon college prep.”

The City Championship match MVP was seventh grader Mae Abernathy.
