Due to mechanical failure, the FEC Railroad Bridge across the St Johns River in Jacksonville has been placed on a limited opening schedule.
This bridge will remain open to navigation from 9 to 10 a.m., 2 to 3 p.m. and from 7 to 10 p.m., Monday through Friday, and on Saturday and Sunday from 9 to 10 a.m., 2 to 4 p.m., and from 7 to 10 p.m. At all other times the bridge will be closed to navigation.
On Jaguars’ 1 p.m. Game Days, the openings will be 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. (pre-game), and 4 to 10 p.m. (postgame).
The coast guard reports “The FEC Railroad Bridge across the St. Johns River will be closed to navigation from December 6 – 13, 2013 for repairs. These dates were chosen to not interfere with the Boat Parade and other water related events scheduled in December.”
FEC is in the process of manufacturing a part in order to replace the broken bearing. If the bearing fails before the new part can be delivered, the bridge will need to be operated manually with additional restrictions implemented.
