Clay Box Workshop @ Murray Hill Art Center
Jan 7 @ 2:30 PM – 4:30 PM

Think outside the box!  Round boxes, oval boxes. Boxes with lids to hold precious objects, boxes with roofs that become a bird house or a cookie jar.

In this workshop you will learn how to plan and make a template that you will use to construct a box of your very own design.  All this will be done with slab construction ( No wheel work ).  You will learn how to incorporate texture and carvings to elaborate your design.

Students are encouraged to come to the first class with some idea of shape and size of the box they have in mind.  Experience with clay not necessary but helpful.

Saturday from 2:30 to 4:30  we will discuss design ideas and make a template for our box.

The following day ( Sunday ) from noon to 4:30 we will roll out our clay.  Patti will give a demo on basic box construction while our clay firms up enough for us to be able to construct our boxes.

Our pieces will need the week to dry enough for the first ( Bisque ) firing.

The following Sunday from noon to 4:30 we will use glazes or underglazes to paint our pieces.
