TWO MEN AND A TRUCK and Jacksonville Zoo help mothers

Though Mother’s Day is intended to be a joyous occasion for women across the country, thousands of moms will be overlooked on this special holiday because they live in shelters as a result of domestic abuse or homelessness. 

To ensure moms in crisis receive the love and appreciation they deserve this Mother’s Day, TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® Jacksonville is partnering with the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens to host its Movers for Moms® collection drive to provide critical gifts to local women staying in community shelters this spring.

The Jacksonville moving company is working with Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens to collect essential care and comfort items for women at Hubbard House. Collection will run from May 1- May 10. Guests who bring three nonperishable food or two full-size toiletry items will receive $5 off the general admission price and Zoo members will receive a free ticket for Campground Critters. The drop-off will be at the Zoo’s Main Camp where guests can help fill moving boxes with the donations.

“When survivors of domestic violence flee for the safety of Hubbard House shelter, they often come with few belongings and limited financial resources. So, while they are with us working toward safety and financial self-sufficiency, Hubbard House provides everything they and their children need,” Hubbard House CEO Dr. Gail A. Patin said. “The Movers for Moms initiative allows our partners – members of the community – to provide tangible support for survivors while simultaneously communicating caring to those in need and allowing the agency to allocate more resources toward survivor services.” 

Each year, Hubbard House serves 5,000 domestic violence victims — adults and children — and receives generous support from the community. Donated dollars stay local, helping victims and their children.  

This spring marked the 12th anniversary of Movers for Moms®. Since its introduction, the program has expanded nationally to 41 states and more than 300 franchises. Last year was the program’s most successful year to-date, with more than 366,000 items collected for donation to hundreds of shelters across the country. This year the goal is to exceed 400,000 items for mothers in need.
