Concert raises funds to help feed the hungry in Florida

Critically-acclaimed concert pianists Michelle Chen Kuo and son Christopher Kuo performed a two piano recital for the benefit of Feeding Northeast Florida March 10 at Friday Musicale.

The musicians are currently on a benefit tour for nonprofit organizations across the country, with more than 30 engagements in 19 states across the United States. Their most recent performances bring their career fundraising total to $323,000, and they have a goal to raise another quarter million dollars over the course of next season.

The evening began with a VIP cocktail reception, followed by the duo performing piano works by Sergei Rachmaninoff, Maurice Ravel, and Anton Arensky for 75 patrons. At intermission, a silent auction offered several wine events as well as a canvas print of Memorial Park’s statue during Hurricane Irma, which the musicians bought for $500. Over $18,000 in monetary and in-kind donations was received, with 100 percent of the proceeds benefiting Feeding Northeast Florida, a critical member of the Feeding America network of food banks that provides millions of healthy meals to families in need.
