A tradition is born with the Great Fire Gathering
More than 230 guests gathered May 1 on the grounds of the Jacksonville History Center for an inaugural Low Country Boil fundraiser commemorating the 125th anniversary of the Great Fire of 1901. Patrons reflected on the city’s past while supporting its future.
JWB Real Estate Capital President Alex Sifakis and historian and author Wayne Wood were presented with the inaugural Rebuilder Award and Keeper of the Flame Award, respectively, for their contributions to honoring and preserving Jacksonville’s history.
Guests enjoyed shrimp, corn, potatoes and low country goodness alongside fine wine, cold beer and cocktails. Funds were raised to support museum expansion efforts and restoration of the former St. Luke’s Hospital building and campus.
