District 14 includes the Riverside/Avondale historic district, but also stretches to Ortega, down the Westside to the Clay County line in Argyle. Learn about the five candidates vying for this city council seat, what they envision for Jacksonville, and the strategies and allies they plan to use to make a mark on our community. Join candidates Randy DeFoor, Sunny Gettinger, Henry Mooneyhan, Jimmy Peluso, and Earl Testy for a dynamic and engaging conversation moderated by writer John Citrone. This 90-minute event will include a Q&A with the audience.

Historic Preservation Workshop: COA Process @ Wells Fargo Community Center

Historic properties have unique charm, craftsmanship and also a special process to renovate them. Both residential and commercial renovations within Historic Districts of Jacksonville require a Certificate of Appropriateness (COA) from the City of Jacksonville. Learn about that process, what requires a COA and what does not, and how to be most efficient with your time when it comes to renovating a historic property.

Join the City of Jacksonville’s Planning and Development Department staff for an informative presentation on the COA process, with time to ask your questions!

The doors will open at 5:30pm, the program will run from 6-7pm.

Beginning Thursday, January 10th, join us every Tuesday and Thursday at 11:30 a.m. for a fast-paced 30-minute walk in downtown Jacksonville, led by Friends of Hemming Park staff. We will meet near the “Opposing Forces” sculpture in Hemming Park at the corner of  Monroe and Laura Streets.
