As part of its 49th annual Student Music Awards, “Downbeat Magazine” has recognized the DA Jazz Combo from Douglas Anderson School of the Arts as its “2026 Small Jazz Combo – Performing Arts School” national award winners, with tenor saxophonist Spencer Carnochan named an “Outstanding Soloist.”

While the DA Jazz program has consistently been recognized by “Downbeat Magazine” over the last 20 years, this marks the first year the DA Jazz Combo has been tapped for this prestigious recognition. Past accolades include “Large Jazz Ensemble – Performing Arts School” national winners and numerous outstanding performers. Several DA students have also received “Outstanding Soloist” awards.

The six members of the Jazz Combo are Carnochan, Erik Links (trumpet), Ean Bricknell (trombone), Isaiah Newland (drums), Graham Guiler (bass) and Rory Ames (piano).

This award-winning combo performed live at the 2026 Jacksonville Jazz Festival on Riverfront Plaza’s brand-new Jazz in the Plaza stage.
